Volleyball Tournament Raises Money For Schools

08/12/2011

Chicago-based Alliant Credit Union recently raised money for Burbank, Illinois School District 111 by holding its 6th Annual Alliant Employee Volleyball Tournament. Each year, Alliant employees contribute to a beneficiary chosen by the credit union's Civic Affairs Committee. This year, Burbank School District 111, located in southwest suburban Chicago, was selected to receive contributions related to the tournament, which totaled nearly $5,000. Contributions were made through employee purchases of specially printed tournament T-shirts and raffle tickets for prizes donated by the credit union and several employees.

Funds raised will be used to assist athletic programs at Liberty Junior High School and other Burbank District 111 schools, according to Liberty's Principal Jim Martin, who represented the school district by addressing Alliant employees during a lunchtime break in the tournament. He said, "In these difficult times it's very important to receive additional funding to help our schools provide positive, meaningful after school activities for students. We greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness and generosity of Alliant Credit Union and its employees." Ms. Antigone Campobasso, Liberty's Dean of Students and Athletic Director, also expressed her appreciation to Alliant and its generous employees.

Two teams compete during the 6th Annual Alliant Employee Volleyball Tournament. The event, which raised money for Burbank Schools, was held in July at Alliant Credit Union headquarters near O’Hare Airport.

David W. Mooney, Alliant President & CEO said, "Burbank School District is an excellent choice to receive employee donations from this year's volleyball tournament. We know that Burbank area families and schools have been negatively impacted by economic conditions. We're especially proud of our many employees who contributed to this cause." Mooney added, "What's more, the annual Volleyball Tournament is a fun-filled day for our employees, with volleyball games, great prizes and free lunch for all."
