Supplemental Savings FAQs

What’s the difference between a regular savings account and the supplemental savings account?

The only difference is that a supplemental savings is an additional savings account. You can name each account based on your specific financial goals — saving up for a vacation, wedding, emergency fund, etc. — allowing you to more easily track your progress toward that goal.

How do I open a supplemental savings account in Alliant Online Banking?

Online banking makes it simple to open Supplemental Savings accounts.

1. At the bottom of the left column (under the listing of your Alliant accounts), click on "Open a new account."

2. On the "Open New Account" page, select "Supplemental Savings," then follow the prompts to name your account, add a joint owner if applicable, and fund the account. Note that you may choose to open a Supplemental Savings account with a $0 balance and add funds later.

If you have questions about opening a new Supplemental Savings account, send us a secure message in online banking (click "Messages" at the top of any online banking page) or mobile banking (click the talk icon at the top left of the app, then select the "Send a secure message" button) or call us at 800-328-1935.

Can I have more than one supplemental savings account?

Yes. You can have up to 19 supplemental savings accounts.

Are there any transaction restrictions for savings accounts?

Federal regulations limit pre-authorized withdrawals to six per month per savings account.

Do I have to maintain a minimum balance to have a savings account or to earn interest?

The minimum balance to keep your savings account open is $5. To earn interest, you must maintain a daily average minimum balance of $100. Alliant interest is paid monthly.

What is an Alliant Savings ATM Card?

An Alliant Savings ATM Card is an EMV chip card that can be used at ATMs to give you access to the funds in your Alliant Savings Account. Alliant Savings ATM cards are issued only to members who do not have an Alliant checking account debit card. Please refer to our Alliant Savings ATM Card frequently asked questions.
