Meet Alliant Credit Union’s New CEO

Meet Mike Dobbins, the newly appointed CEO of Alliant Credit Union. With more than 30 years of leadership in financial services and fintech, Mike comes to Alliant from Framework Venture Partners, following senior executive roles at RBC (where he oversaw U.S. banking and led the launch of RBC Ventures) and Capital One (serving as EVP of Consumer Banking).

As the credit union embarks on its tenth decade of serving members, we sat down with Mike to learn his vision for the future, his insights on innovation in banking, and what this anniversary moment means for Alliant.

Question: What drew you to Alliant, and what excites you most about leading this organization?

Mike Dobbins: “First and foremost, the values. I read the values and thought to myself, 'That’s really me.' I wanted to be part of an organization that unleashes talent. I wanted to be part of an organization that obsesses about wowing members. Aligning values was first and foremost for me. My excitement about the opportunity continued to grow as I spoke with the board, leadership team, and others. I looked at all the potential that we have as a digital member-centric organization to do something very special. I'm just really excited to be on this team.”

Q: How would you describe your leadership style in three words?

MD: “I'm collaborative, I'm inclusive, and inspirational. I like to inspire, bring everybody together, create unity of purpose around an idea or strategy, and then move forward as a team.”

Q: What’s one lesson from a past leader that still guides you today?

MD: “One of my best leaders taught me to make sure you align at a high level with people but then make sure you give them the room to get the job done. I think that if you want to build a high-performance organization, people need to have the freedom to interpret and execute things. It's how you bring out their best.”

Q: What resonates with you the most about Alliant’s mission?

MD: “I love the idea of wowing people. One of the things I'm very excited about is how to really bring wow to life in our members' and colleagues’ experiences every day. When you think about the banking products themselves, every bank has a checking account and a mortgage – but if we can bring wow to life in all our interactions, I think we’d be a truly unique institution.
