Alliant & United Airlines Host Electronics Drive to Assist Illinois Families

10/06/2021

Sixteen pallets of donations were collected to support PCs for People’s work of creating a more digitally equitable world.

A computer donation event held last week at Alliant Credit Union corporate headquarters near O’Hare International Airport collected over 16 pallets of equipment to help Illinois families currently lacking digital access in their homes.

The event was held by United Airlines and digital financial institution, Alliant. Donations of laptops, phones, tablets and other computer parts were collected for nonprofit organization PCs for People of Illinois. All data will be permanently and securely deleted from the electronics and then refurbished to provide to communities in need. Any unusable electronic equipment will be recycled responsibly.

"As a national, digital financial institution, Alliant feels we have a particular mission to create a more digitally equitable world. These donation events active the mission locally. It's through great partners like PCs for People and United that our employees, our members and the local community can take a hands-on approach.  Every one of us can make an impactful contribution,” said Alliant CEO Dennis Devine.

At Alliant's first drive in June, another four tons of computers and internet connection equipment were collected for PCs for People, helping over 450 individuals.

“We are grateful to corporations like Alliant and United Airlines who go above and beyond to help us achieve our mission,” said Erin Sherwood, executive director of PCs for People Cook County. “Digital equity is a vital issue in our Illinois communities and we appreciate their commitment to solving this problem. Our organization model depends on donated devices and these four tons will not only stay out of landfills, but will go on to help many families and individuals alike.”
