Alliant Assists Charities with Successful Civic Affairs Initiatives

08/16/2012

Chicago based Alliant Credit Union's Civic Affairs Committee has planned and coordinated several successful charity and community events this year, according to Alliant President and CEO David W. Mooney. In fact, committee members were recently recognized by Mr. Mooney for these programs. At a recent employee meeting, he praised Civic Affairs members for outstanding volunteer efforts resulting in large donations and other assistance for worthy causes.

Mr. Mooney also commended the many Alliant employees who participate in the initiatives conducted by Civic Affairs. "It's great that these events are rewarding and entertaining for many Alliant employees who support them," said Mooney. Alliant Civic Affairs activities so far this year include:

Super Bowl Chili Day

On February 2nd Alliant Credit Union held a Super Bowl Chili Day in honor of the big game and to raise money for Bears Care, a charity established by the Chicago Bears. An amount of $5,000 was donated, including contributions by Alliant employees and a matching grant from Alliant Credit Union Foundation. The event featured an appearance by former Chicago Bears all pro offensive lineman James "Big Cat" Williams.

Spring Fling Clothing Drive

During April, Chicago area employees participated in Alliant's 5th Annual Spring Fling Clothing Drive. Employees contributed hundreds of gently used clothing items benefiting Hephzibah Children's Association in Oak Park, IL.

Prescott Service Day

In June, Civic Affairs participated in the 4th Annual Prescott Service Day at Prescott Elementary School in Chicago. Each year, Civic Affairs arranges for Alliant employee volunteers to work on projects that enhance Prescott Elementary School, including painting, planting and other needs. Prescott is Alliant's partner in the Chicago Public Schools Corporate Partnership program.

Employee Charity Volleyball

Civic Affairs, with co-sponsor Alliant Employee Events, recently held Alliant's 7th Annual Employee Volleyball Tournament at the credit union's Headquarters in Chicago. Ten teams competed, including a Branch Manager team with players from coast to coast. This year's volleyball beneficiary was National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Employees donated $5,700 through pledges, T-shirt purchases and raffle ticket sales. Plus, Alliant Credit Union Foundation donated $5,000 in conjunction with this event.

Civic Affairs works closely with Alliant's Foundation by arranging donation opportunities and recommending charity grant requests. Additional examples this year include cancer related fundraisers resulting in $11,000 in donations. More 2012 fundraising events are planned this involving Alliant's Civic Affairs, employees and Foundation. Beneficiaries will include Special Olympics, March of Dimes and more.
